Membership

What are the benefits of becoming a member of CAPE?

CAPE membership means that as an immigrant seeking to join the engineering fraternity in Ontario and Canada you can:

  • Get comprehensive "Employment Advisory Support" geared particularly to your needs
  • Become part of a vibrant supportive collaborative community
  • Advance your engineering education, experience and skills through appropriate knowledge mobilization
  • Become part of a collective voice that can legitimately voice your concerns, advocate and influence policy on your behalf

Who can become a member of CAPE?

CAPE membership is open to all persons interested in furthering the objective of maximizing the potential of immigrants with engineering backgrounds coming to Canada. Members of CAPE must meet the following criteria before application for admission as a member or to board of directors of CAPE:

All applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or must have made a formal application to immigrate to Canada; and
  • Possess a minimum of post-secondary credentials in the engineering, engineering technician or engineering technologist fields.

CAPE Membership Categories

There are five categories of membership in CAPE.

1. Regular Member

A regular member must possess an engineering degree or diploma from any university or other post-secondary institution, must be a permanent resident, citizen or refugee residing in Canada, or must be a potential immigrant who has filed for landed immigrant status in Canada and does not hold a professional license or certification in any province or territory of Canada. Regular members are entitled to receive notice of and vote at all meetings of members, become directors and/or officers of CAPE. Regular members will enjoy:

  • Free access to online versions of CAPE publications
  • Free access to comprehensive information on access to the engineering profession in Canada
  • Online and direct advisory and mentoring support for newcomers with engineering backgrounds
  • Comprehensive career and transition planning tools
  • Annual program of social and learning events
  • Discounts on jointly sponsored activities, meetings and events
  • Free access to a range of online services exclusive to registered members
  • Regular e-newsletters
  • Access to support teams and country representatives in over 70 countries
  • The right to vote in ballot and elections
  • Regular forums organized on topical issues
  • Networking opportunities with the broader engineering and employer community

2. Practicing Member

A practicing member must possess an engineering degree or diploma from a recognized university or other post-secondary institution, must be a permanent resident, citizen or refugee residing in Canada and must hold a professional license or certification in any province or territory of Canada. Practicing members are entitled to receive notice of and vote at all meetings of members, become directors and/or officers of CAPE. Practicing members will enjoy:

  • Free access to online versions of CAPE publications
  • Participation in mentoring support for newcomers with engineering backgrounds
  • Comprehensive information on access to the engineering profession in Canada
  • Annual program of social and learning events
  • Discounts on jointly sponsored activities, meetings and events
  • Regular e-newsletters
  • Regular forums organized on topical issues

3. Supporting Member

Membership as a supporting member is available to any individual or organization that supports the mission and objectives of CAPE. Supporting members are entitled to receive notice of and attend meetings of members but are not entitled to vote. Supporting members are entitled to act as advisors to the board of directors if the board so desires. Supporting members will be entitled to:

  • Free access to online versions of CAPE publications
  • Participation in advisory and mentoring support for newcomers with engineering backgrounds
  • Comprehensive information on access to the engineering profession in Canada
  • Annual program of social and learning events
  • Discounts on jointly sponsored activities, meetings and events
  • Regular e-newsletters
  • Regular forums organized on topical issues

4. Associate Member

Membership as an associate member is available to architects, planners, project managers, geologists, and geophysicists, individuals in the natural and applied science fields and other individuals whose profession is closely related to engineering. Associate members are entitled to receive notice of and vote at all meetings of members, become directors and/or officers of CAPE. Associate membership is open to those who work within the field of the built and natural environment. Associate members shall enjoy:

  • Free access to online versions of CAPE publications
  • Comprehensive information on access to the engineering profession in Canada
  • Support to develop similar information for their professions
  • Annual program of social and learning events
  • Regular e-newsletters
  • Regular forums organized on topical issues

5. Patron

Membership as a patron is open to individuals who wish to support the mission and objectives of CAPE and who do not qualify for other classes of membership. Patrons are entitled to receive notice of and attend meetings of members but are not entitled to vote. Patrons are entitled to act as advisors to the board of directors if the board so desires. Patrons will enjoy:

  • Free access to online versions of CAPE publications
  • Comprehensive information on access to the engineering profession in Canada
  • Invitations to annual program of social and learning events
  • Regular e-newsletters
  • Invitation to regular forums organized on topical issue
